Overview

The STA Practitioners Level Medical-Astrology Course, Stage I: Groundwork provides training in most of the methods typically applied in the practice of medical-astrology – but that does not mean that you will feel confident in applying them to other people’s charts as soon as you complete that course. You will have practiced the use of horary, decumbiture, and electional, so these tools should feel fairly comfortable to you; however, the use of medical-astrology techniques in natal work, and the historical connection of astrology to herbalism, are likely to retain elements of confusion until more experience is gained in their practical application. This course is designed to expand your chart experience and consolidate your understanding of the principles through an in-depth exploration of a series of case studies, to allow you to gain confidence in your application of this material within your own chart work.

Because this course involves substantial personal work with each student, you must commit to active engagement with the course material if you wish to register. This means:

  • You must have received your certificate for the STA Practitioners Level Medical-Astrology Course, Stage I: Groundwork (aka: STAMP1).
  • You must commit to attending at least 80% of the sessions live. (Every effort will be made to shift starting times for different teams to work in different time zones around the world).
  • You commit to participating in the course assignments. Before you can attend the course, you must provide six charts you will use yourself in the course exercises, such as 2 horaries, 2 electional exercises, and 2 natal examples, which ideally would be accompanied by decumbitures.
  • For your benefit, you should have your course notes from STAMP1 well organized, because you will be constantly referring to the methods taught there, and in Lee Lehmans' textbook Traditional Medical Astrology.

Syllabus

The format of this course is quite different than that presented in STAMP1. Lecturing will be minimal, but group discussion is key. We begin with an exploration of everyone’s horaries, and proceed as follows:

  1. Students submit their horaries/decumbitures to our teaching portal, providing a copy of the chart and an assessment of the most important astrological details, the judgement, and the outcome/result of the situation. (These are presented as exercises, not mystery charts).
  2. A second student is appointed to review/critique the horary.
  3. The instructor for the session will then review both presentations, and add additional comments. The class will discuss this as a consultation, and the issues that it raises, along with answering any questions from the presenter or the other students.

The same type of structure is applied to the electional and natal modules of this course. The forum discussion will focus on examining the issues raised by the examples.

As the weeks proceed, students will also be given additional resources in the astrology of herbs, and tasked with some electional assignments relating to picking appropriate times for their use.

Lee has trained students in horary, medical and electional astrology all over the world, in both live and online formats.

An early adherent of the current neo-classical movement in astrology, Lee’s focus has been to speak the method of classical astrology in modern language, and to help encourage people to learn how to apply ancient knowledge in modern systems. Her Perennial Herbal takes ancient astrological herbalism onto the web.

Lee was the recipient of the 1995 Marc Edmund Jones Award, and the 2008 UAC Marion March Regulus Award in the category of astrological education.
